The CO2 fractional laser is a well-established resurfacing treatment, especially suited to acne scars and skin texture.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>1. What is a CO2 fractional laser<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The CO2 (carbon dioxide) laser has a wavelength of 10,600 nm, which is readily absorbed by water in the skin. \u201cFractional\u201d means the beam is split into many tiny columns that treat only a fraction of the skin at a time, leaving healthy tissue in between to help the skin heal faster.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>2. How it works<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The micro-beams create thousands of tiny treatment zones that remove aged and damaged tissue, while heat stimulates new collagen in the dermis. Old tissue is replaced by fresh skin, leaving the surface smoother and more refined.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>3. What it can improve<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u2460 Acne scars, acne marks and scars from injury or surgery; \u2461 Enlarged pores and rough, uneven texture; \u2462 Fine lines, laxity and sun damage; \u2463 Stretch marks and other texture concerns.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Sessions and recovery<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">A topical numbing cream is applied before treatment to reduce discomfort. Afterwards the skin will look red and feel warm, then tiny scabs form that usually flake off within about 5 to 7 days. A course is usually 1 to 3 sessions, 1 to 3 months apart, tailored by your practitioner to your skin. Results build gradually over several months as collagen is rebuilt.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Aftercare<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ol class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Do not pick the scabs; let them fall off naturally;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Cleanse gently with lukewarm water and use a repairing moisturizer;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Protect from the sun with SPF 30 or higher;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Avoid makeup, whitening products and harsh skincare until the scabs have fallen off;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>For one week, avoid saunas, hot springs, intense exercise, alcohol and spicy food.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The CO2 laser delivers noticeable results but needs some recovery time, and people with darker skin or a tendency to pigment should be assessed carefully.
